Glasgow 2004 - Who was there?

I was there yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Got Richard Paterson's autograph and Michael Jackson's.

Saw M.J. again at the Glengoyne masterclass though he appeared to be needing a bit of a breather by then.

Met and recognized Julia from Dewar's WOW. She is probably still recovering from meeting me (most people need to recover after meeting me).

I turned down a Highland Park on the rocks with ginger beer and settled for a neat one.

Got many cracking drams, especially the new Macallan fine oak at 15 years old. Glengoyne have released a 12 year old cask strength which barely needs water at all. The new Scapa 14 is an interesting alternative to Highland park. I found it to be slightly salty with a crisp and light body and a rather refreshing finish.

Also, watch out for Aberlour 16 year old which appears to be export only.

Most of my favourites at events such as these are independent bottlers and this was no exception.

Whisky Galore's Rosebank 13 is one of the best Rosebank's I've had and was fresh, fruity, crisp and extremely smooth.

Douglas Laing are usually a good bet and their Provenance Craigellachie was another one to savour.

Honourable mentions go to Berry Brothers and Rudd for their 1991 Glencadam, which was light and creamy and brought to mind the old blurb that used to be on the back of Stewart's Cream of The Barley years ago, and to Dewar Rattray's cask strength Longmorn 14 which needed only a couple of drops of water to reveal it's extraordinary smoothness with strong notes of vanilla and marzipan and an extremely crisp finish.

Glad you enjoyed the show, I got up there for Saturday and was very impressed with the whole setup.

Everyone seemed to have a great time (except the very few who needed to be escorted off site :shock:

)

Really looking forward to seeing what others thought of it. Does it compare to the London show ?

ps.. Still can't get that Famous Grouse tune out of my head after standing in the Experience marquee all day :lol:

Is the first time that Allied have been at Whisky Live?

They've never appeared at the Whisky Fringe so I was surprised to see them in Glasgow.

Since they were there, I wonder if they will be there at the Whisky Fringe.

I'll probably be at both events next year.

Got to taste Laphroaig Quarter Cask in the Master Class.
Thought it was very good. Looking forward to release.
