Who won the Highland Park 40 Year old?

Postby LagaDrinker » Thu Jan 01, 2009 2:53 pm

Do you remeber the competition advertised on the website last year?
I thought the winner was being announced in November, do we actually know who was the lucky winner?

Sadly, not me either  After seeing the advertisement for the HP 40 on the back of Issue 76 I know the bottle would look nice up on the shelf.

I didn't win the competition, but I was fortunate enough to taste a dram of it. A bloody sensational dram!! I'll need to win the lottery before I can buy a whole bottle for myself, but I can thoroughly recommend the contents.

Cheers,

Maybe WM is checking with the competition committee as we speak.

...or we can just keep up a nice conversation about HP 40 in this thread to keep it at the top of the Active Thread List.

Good question! In contests I've read about, sometimes the list of contest winners isn't published for several months.

I have faith that Matt or Rob will chime in at some point.

Oh, I'm sure there was a winner, and a prize - but the HP 40 was just distilled this week, so the winner can collect it in, oh, say 2049 or so.

Ok, and I hate getting involved in this sort of thing, accusations that I/we as a magazine have been fraudulent also bears certain legal consequences.
Now lets just calm back down.
I said I would find out. All the names were handed to HP's pr company and I spoke to them today. So I should have an answer soon.
Bear with me for now.

Well...I hope my pushing this thread too didn't give the impression that I felt WM did anything dishonest. I just thought it would be fun to find out who won the bottle.

BTW...I chuckled Matt!

It was a bad day for me, what with the whiskylive times being moved and now I will miss an hour of the show.

I over reacted, your joke was funny Matt and I don't doubt that there was a prize, I just wondered who won.

Please accept my apologies Matt, Rob and WM.

I have no reason to doubt the probity of either W.M. or H.P. but it's a reflection on our times that where once people would unquestioningly accept this type of competition at face value, recent experience has exposed various hypes & scams (fraudulent phone-ins etc.,) by supposedly 'reputable' organisations that, for the avoidance of doubt, it would be nice for once to see who won...

I thought someone was crowing a while back that they'd won it but that could have been another contest, now I think about it. As the contest awards are restricted to people that the prize can be forwarded to, we North Americans can only sit back and wish the winner all the best. (While gritting our teeth).

By the by FirewallXL5, I finally noticed your "moniker" and nearly fell off my chair laughing. You gotta be 50 ish!

Aidan,
You actually won the second price, a bottle of Bells whisky.
Just send me your address and £200 for postage and I will personally post your bottle.
:P

(I better add that this was a joke, before things get our of hand)
