Highland Park 18 or 21?

Postby MacPete » Thu Jan 08, 2009 1:06 pm

Hi all

I want to get myself a bottle of HP, but can't decide whether to get the 18 or the 21 (will be travelling and should be able to hunt down a bottle of 21). I have heard by some, that the 21 is a lighter dram than the 18 but I haven't tried any of them myself (although I really like the 12). I do like a nice, round and full-bodied dram... :P Any experiences?

I have had both, and for the price of the 21 (not much more than the 18 really) it's not even close, I'd take the HP 21 everyday. I think I even prefer it over the 25yo.

The HP 21 is just about as perfect as it can be IMO. Well balanced with some of the nice sweet honey-like notes in HP, but the balance of smoke is just perfect in this dram.

And for a contrary opinion, I would take the 18 over the 21 given the price differential.

I believe the price difference is only around 10 punds...

I love the 18 but have not tried the 21 but i hear it is close to the 30 yr in profile. All i can say is that the 30 is fantastic so if the 21 is in a similar vein maybe you should try that one.

Thanks for the input. Think I'll go for the 21. Hope I can get it at Glasgow Airport. I've also just heard about the new Balvenie Golden Cask, which is exclusive to travel retail, but it looks like it won't be out before the beginning of february, and I'll be travelling at the end of January... Oh well, I guess that's just 45 pounds saved :) Sounds like something to try though...
