Rosebank Flora and Fauna 12 anyone tried?

Postby dramtastic » Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:31 am

Hi fellow dramers,

This one is a potential future purchase for me, but costs AUD$175. I'ts the only Rosebank I can buy in Australia as far as I know, and I am always keen to try a brand I haven't before. This one received a 95 score in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2006.
But, any other opinions would be appreciated before I commit to parting the readies.

Muchas Gracias

Hey there fellow Aussie! You might like to check out a Dan Murphy's as they have a 17yo Hart Bros bottling (ex bourbon) for about $130 and I think Vintage Cellars had a 11yo OMC for around $100 and a Connoisseurs Choice (not sure of age) for $120.

It is indeed a very good and light Rosebank, originally sold for about £32. AUD$175 is not very cheap :(

Hey Borgom,

Have you tried any of these IB's?

Going to the SMWS event in Brisvegas this friday, you never know, maybe they'll have a Rosebank to taste.

Hi Corbuso,

Whisky and cheap aren't two words that go together here in Australia!

I haven't tried any yet. I was looking at the 17yo Hart Bros but I'm on a self imposed whisky purchasing ban at the moment so I'm resisting it at the moment.
Sorry, I know that doesn't help you at all!

The OMC 11 is $80 at Vintage Cellars and 1st Choice. I really like it but give it time. It was pretty dry when initially opened, but once there was some air in the bottle it became fantastic.

The F&F Rosebank is very good. You don't need to worry about the quality.

At AU$175 perhaps you could try ordering from one the websites that ship globally and just pay the duty when it gets there?

We can sell you one for £45, I would give you a 10% discount, but the postage would be around £30, your risk.
If £70 equates kindly with your exchange rate, give us a shout. It is my absolute favourite, no doubt about it, but as collector 57 rightly points out, there will be people who dislike it.
It was originally sold for around £32-£35, the originals, with the white caps, boxed, can go for around £150 now.
This has a black cap, and they are getting harder to obtain.

Thanks to all and sundrey. Good prices for some of the websites listed, but....... after tax are going to be more expensive. Still, had fun checking out all of those wonderful drams(and the reviews are helpful). Ahhhhhhh dare to dream!!!

Going to try and source the OMC 11 this weekend, thanks TroyM, I won't say it's a preference ,but I like dry in my alcohol so no prob for me.

Cheers

No worries Borgom,

I wish I could go on the self imposed whisky purchasing ban myself, but at my current rate, seems the house will have to go 1st!!!!!!!!! :insane: :)
