I tried this one about two weeks ago.
The first thing that surprised me was the dry and fruity sherry. which is quite flawless. Besides that I found notes of sea mayweed, peat and a balsam-like kind of quality that I never found in young malts.
I agree that there is fresh peat but no smoke or ashes.
In the mouth this one is quite astringent.
I agree that it's really good but it is also quite different than other Laphroaigs.
I think this one really is for you if you like your malt dry, fruity and unobtrusive peaty.
