Scapa 16?!

Postby Ganga » Thu Apr 16, 2009 3:57 am

I stopped by the Depot on the way home. Ok, ya got me; I went out of my way on the way home. Anyway, no Scapa 14 but rather a new style bottling of Scapa 16 at 40%.

Does this mean that Scapa 14 is now gone? Label on the 16 did not indicate LE.

I guess I'll have to stash a bottle of 14 when I find it again. Beautiful bottle but I'm not sure it's worth a 50% rise for 2 years and being diluted to 40%. Hm. I guess I'll look into it in the future.

Ganga, below are a few links of places in California that say they have the 14 if you are interested.

treid the 16 a couple of weeks ago
found it disapointing
which could also have something to do with my expectations of course
but it was an oke whisky
but dull, bland, smooth, not very exciting

I want to try it but I'm not prepared to pay the £50. I think it may appear at a tasting near me soon so I'll probably get to try it that way.

unfortunatley, i have to agree w/laddie on the scapa 16 yr, and it is a shame cause i really enjoyed the 14 yr. i thought the 14yr was overshaowded by HP as the only other distillery on orkney, and found the 14yr to have a wonderful salty, honey and sea taste thing going on. i tried the 16yr at whiskyfest chicago and, like laddie, found it to be dull and bland, lacking the distinct flavors that the 14 yr had. oh well.

I had a bottle of the 14 awhile back and all I remember from it was sweet canned pears!!
I know a liquor store near me that probably has some 14 sitting on the shelf. I better get back there soon a snag one :P
