Macallan 18 - Price 4-5 Years Ago?

I was not drinking single malt scotch back then and I am wondering what a Macallan 18 cost about 4-5 years ago. Specifically when the 1985 version was on the shelves.

I found a few of these bottles at some local stores recently and they want crazy prices for them. I know these bottles were much cheaper then so I am thinking about going in and trying to negotiate on them for closer to what they were selling for back then. They are in neighborhoods where they will sit on the shelf for another 4 years if I don't take them off their hands... so I think I am doing them a favor by makign them an offer!

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I was able to get the 1985 for $135 (which I thought was a very good price at the time) about 3 years ago. There were other newer vintages out already but this board had some good comments about the '85...

For the 18 YO 100% sherry matured, 4-5 years, it was sold for the equivalent of £80 or $140.For the 18 YO Fine Oak, the price increased very significantly between 2008 and 2009 (http://www.whisky-news.com/En/reports/R ... t_2009.pdf)

Used to be able to get it for $150 to $180 AUD now the current bottlings are $300 + !

The New Hampshire Liquor Store sold the 1986 'Old Presentation' (the tubes of the dated bottles of 1981-1986) for around 95.00 in the fall of 2005, right before the price jump to around 115.00 that September. I am guess then the 1985 18yo could be had for around 90-95.00, at least in my neck of the woods.

Thats what I had thought the price was several years ago. I remembered people posting here about how much the Mac 18 price has gone up

and the first Macallan I bought was an 18 YO in 1994 or 1995 for £39. Time changes...

I got my 1985 Mac 18 in '05 for $99, but it was around $120 most places. Today it is $150-$160 U.S. prices.

we dont have the 18yr here but the 25yr is over 650$ + 12% tax
