BENRIACH 12 Year Old 'Heredotus Fumosus

Postby Aidan » Thu Aug 13, 2009 11:40 am

Benriach 12 Pedro Ximenez finish.

Had this last night. If I was given it blind, I'd swear it was a Bowmore.

There's a 15-year-old one too, but the one I have is the Heredotus Fumosus 12-year-old http://www.kensingtonwinemarket.com/pro ... /index.php

I'd like to try the 15-year-old.

Interesting. I just don't find that Bowmore Floral in other whiskies. Not sure that I've tried the 12 yo PX but have had the 15 yo...and several cask samples that are PX finished.

If I remember correctly the 12 PX finish is peated while the 15 PX finish is not.

I had both of them at a tasting and I much preferred the 12(I even bought a bottle) though I did not find any floral notes (though I will check my notes when I get home)

I have a Bowmore 17 open, so I'll try them side-by-side tonight. I'm not sure what in particular I found so similar to the Bowmore, but it really sparked something. It might have been the ashy smoke.

Some of the recent Benriach releases have been fantastic. The 21 Authenticas is current favourite.
