I'm sorry to be such an ignoramus. But I've only just started getting into single malt Scotch and am only thus a complete amateur. What makes this so obviously a fake?

Well, the first thing I noticed is that the colour the '50' is bright blue while on the original lable it's more like a shade of blue.

Blacksabb

This is purely my opinion.

1. The capsule looks ruckled/creased.
2. The colour of the capsule looks dull
3. This bottle is worth £4000+ ... why only one photograph?
4. This person hasnt sold expensive bottles before ... why start at one of the ultimates? In fact they havent sold any?
5. Again back to the money, no reserve and starting at £400.
6. No bids on a bottle, this is an ultimate bottle.. if it was kosher ... it would be like flies round $hite.

I have no actual evidence it is fake. I am not saying it is fake. All I do say to anyone is investigate!

Fake.
Box us missing, but several signs on the labels are not matching the bottle sold 1 month earlier for £11,750

I think there is a very big question mark hanging over this. Who would sell something like this on an auction site like e-bay and without a reserve, surely you would go to a specialist auctioneers like Mctears in order to maximise your assets.

Anyway, I see there are five bids in and it's up to £565, will you know what they say about fools and their money........

Cheers John

One of you guys should email Ebay and advise of your concerns and maybe save some poor guy from being ripped off. You do not have to say it is a fake for sure, just say there are serious questions as to authenticity.

Ask for some close up pictures of the capsule and the labels. Then wait and see ...

OK. Here we go. I asked for some close up pictures of the capsule, the front and back labels. I got a reply one hour agon with two pictures. One is the same as on e-bay. The other one is sort of a close up picture of the capsule. It's a crappy one. It only shows the Italian tax label but it's shot from above looking down on the bottle. He also said that I should get back to him straight away for payment and shipping while I only asked for some additional pictures. He claims he has this too:

"I have 3 bottles for sale. The price for all is 2700 euros(shipping fees included). For one is 1000 euros. So now get back to me for payment and shipping." (only 1.000 Euro for a very very very exclusive whisky???)

I asked (again) for pics of the front and back label and this is his reply. (I've just received this e-mail)

"Sir the bottles are at the escrow company .That are the only pics i have. Now if you are realy interested mail me your full name and address and the escrow company will contact you asap. You will have a period of 5 days to inspect the bottles. If they are not like i'm telling you will get full refund from the escrow company.
So now mail me your inffo.Contact the ebay member i sold other 2 bottles.I had 5 ,i recived them as a gift from my uncle from Italy.I have a good feedback and a good reputation on ebay."

My advice. Don't buy it. There is something fishy about this.

This is a pushy guy. He just sent me another e-mail to arrange payment through Western Union. What did I say? Very very fishy. Be carefull.
This is his most recent message:

"You deal with me.You send me 1000 euro here in italy through Western Union where i'm this will be a proof that you are serious. As soon i will verify the payment i will go back to UK and send you the bottles. You will pay me the rest.
So now if we have a deal mail me your full name and address so i give my for payment.
Regards."

No it doesn't prove this one is but the fact that he wants to arrange the payment outside e-bay AND through Western Union must ring a bell.

Swear to God. That's what he wrote to me. And if you don't believe that he probably would tell you something else.

My feeling is if anybody is gullible enough to send 1,000 euros first, he will never see his money again.

Latest update.
Today I received an e-mail from e-bay saying that there was a unauthorised third party that had access to the account of the seller (tanx123). They warned me NOT to correspond with this seller anymore and certainly not to buy any object from him because this account could be used to commit fraude. So ... there you go.

Unusual for ebay to bother themselves. It must be fairly serious then...

Yes. It's good to know they're concerned.

that's rich - a scam artist is trying to rip off buyers by selling a fake bottle and NOT delivering it :P

Or else the fella whose account it is pretended to ebay that he was hacked. I don't know this, of course, but just throwing it in the mix.

Oh yes. This is definately the same seller. Beware! Especially when you read this:

The value is in the collectable container that substantially exceed the current retail price of the alcohol in the container.

This speaks for itself, doesn't it?
