Oban 1969 32yo

Hi guys,

I need some help again. I can get my hands on this bottle for 180 Euro, which is cheap. I've seen prices from 268 Euro to 405 Euro. I've been doing some research on the internet but it's not very easy to find much relevant information. I could find some topics about this whisky on this forum but they are from 2003 and 2004. I would appreciate it if anybody on this forum had any more recent experiences. I've read as many tasting notes as I could possible find. Some love it and others think it's just a good whisky. Of course the main question is whether this whisky is worth the money or not. Any input would be much appreciated.

Oban tends to strike people really well or not at all. I would suggest that you examine whether you enjoyed the Oban offerings you have had. If you didn't enjoy them, it makes it hard to spend a lot on other offerings.

I would look at the tasting notes provided for several of the Obans you've had. Did you get similar sensations? If so, then look at this persons tasting notes on the Oban 32. Do they intrigue you? Just because the notes are several years old does not mean they are invalid. Most of the time, the notes come out quite rapidly and not much thereafter when you are looking at a one-time release.

I'm not a big Oban fan but I have been intrigued by this particular bottle.

I know. The prices are crazy. I was shocked to find a shop in Holland that had it for sale at 409 Euro.
That's why I'm wondering if it's worth the money. Is it that collectable or what?

Cask strength Oban from Diageo are very rare (only 3 so far) and it is very old.

That is a good price for the Oban. I also had one, but sold it for $400 to one of my friend's who wanted it real bad. I have only seen it again here in the states at one store for $350. So you should buy it before it is all gone.

Ditto. Buy it, if only to resell. Binnys blew it out at under $300 and since then it ahs been unvailable for under $350 in the states.
I happily take 3 at that price.
As for TN's I haven't had it in a while, but I recall that I thought it quite "hot" uncut. With a dash or two of water it was much more enjoyable. However, I had it along with many other bottles (at one of my "friend's" of another thread's parties) so my recollection may not be the best for many reasons.

I was told at the distillery that Diageo would never bottle an Oban this old again as there just isn't any old stock left. It's probably worth buying for that reason.

It's not a new bottling. It's bottled in 2002. I'm going to meet the seller himself next Tuesday to pick up the bottle (and check it it's an original one).
