Ardbeg 1975 25 Year Old

At the weekend I was lucky enough to find a 1975 Ardbeg 25 year old to add to my collection. It was distilled in 1975 and bottled in 2000 and I believe it was one of the series of yearly vintages produced by Ardbeg in the 1970s. The label says it's a limited edition.

I would like to know how many bottles were released in this edition. Can anyone help?

I found my bottle at http://lincolnwhiskyshop.co.uk - I live within driving distance but you can order online too.

Apparently the shop owner had originally bought my bottle from another collector a while ago - it had just been gathering dust on a shelf until I acquired it.

I noticed it's not for sale anymore in his shop but at the time I bought it for 280 Euro + 25 Euro shipping costs. He's not cheap but some bottles are a bargain compared to other shops. I know he's Italian but this one is OK.

No one except someone in the right place at Glenmorangie will know how many bottles were produced of the 1975 , there were 4 yearly bottlings of it from 1998 till 2001 , they will run into tens of thousands of bottles .
"Limited Edition" can be very miss leading , for example Glenfiddich labelled a bottle Limited Edition when it ran into over 60,000 bottles ! The only way you can say it is limited is the limited amount of production a distillery can do in a year......

At least with Ardbeg from that time you do know it will be a limited amount....

Maybe one of these days, Ardbeg/Glenmorangie/MH will give me access to bottle numbers for all of their limited editions.



Of the Vintages, only the 1965 and 1990 had the out turn reported, and these were also only distributed in one batch each.

The 1975, 1977 and 1978 were released in multiple batches over 3-4 calendar years each.

Also of note, the 1977 is the only one that mentions "Non-Chill Filtered" on the label, and I haven't confirmed whether or not the other bottles were NCF even though it wasn't on the label.

Thanks for the information everyone - very helpful. I guess 'Limited Edition' is something of a moveable feast unless you can be sure of the exact number of bottles released.

That won't stop me enjoying my purchase though - when the right occasion presents itself of course.

Hi

If you can find one the 1978 vintage bottled at 42.4 % vol is the one to buy as it's very rare.It's believed only 204 bottles of this were sold at the Distillery.It was never sold anywhere else as it was bottled under the 43% vol needed.

Nick , there was a cock up at the bottling hall and a batch was put out at 42.4% instead of the usual 43% that Ardbeg usually filled their bottles at . I never bought any of it (D'oh !) , i think it's original price was £39.95 (the 1975 was £45) , at that time i was a little strapped for cash.....
