Caol Ila 18

Been trying to buy a bottle of this for quite some time now but everyone seems to be out. Any gossip on its future availability?

My understanding is that it is in the same boat as the Talisker 18, and won't be available in large amounts for a while and when it comes back it might see a price increase. I remember someone saying that it had to do with needing these two malts for JW products, but I am not sure.

As was the case with the Talisker 18YO, the LCBO (Ontario, Canada) recently delisted the Caol Ila 18YO. However, it can still be had in the 3x 200ml format (along with the 12YO and CS).

I have to say, there does seem to be a dearth of the Caol Ila 18yo out there. Previously i could find it in supermarkets and a few other retail outlets in the UK. Now however it appears to be quite difficult to come across. Even oddbins state that they aren't going to be getting any in soon, nor do The Whisky Shop seem to have any.

Have resorted to the last chance saloon, the internet, where fortunately i managed to pick up a couple of bottles from Berry Bros.

That said, does anyone know the reason why there seems to be a lack of this particular favourite of mine on the streets? Anything to do with the relatively recent introduction of the Laph 18?

When I was at the distillery a few months ago they just said that they are not producing it for a while, same story as I got at Talisker about their 18. I assume that as both these distilleries are primarily blend fodder that the priority is not single malts so as stock dwindle....

The Caol Ila 18 has been phase out end of 2008-early 2009. It won't be produced anymore (or at least for a couple of years)
