Midleton Very Rare

I would like to buy my boyfriend a bottle of Midleton Very Rare for his 40th birthday in May. When does the annual vintage get released?

Hope I'm not the barer of bad news for you. However if your looking for the 2010 vintage it has not been released yet. The usual release time is October - November. However I'm not aware if the 2009 vintage has even been released yet ???

Do you have a favourite vintage year for MVR? Or do you think it will be OK to buy whatever year I can find?

They delayed the release of the 2009, apparently, until the previous vintage is sold out. This is an expensive bottle and I think sales have been affected by the recession. I am open to correction, though.

I think all the later vintages are good. Better than the earlier ones, generally. So 2008 is available and good.

Here in the Northeast US I usually see the MVR releases the following March/April. So I would expect to see the 2009 release soon (depending on Aidan's comment about the delay). I've been picking up a bottle for each of the new children in the family and the family has been busy of late. So I'll be looking for 3 bottles of the 2009 (plus another for myself). The last few years I've found to be fairly consistent so a 2008 would be a good gift as well.

To be quite honest it would not be a huge favourite of mine ... strangely it is too easy to drink and borders on candy for me
