40 Year Old Cutty Sarks

Greeting follow scotch drinkers. I have a question about a promotional one gallon bottle of Cutty Sarks in a metal rocker that I know is at least 40 years old. I got it from my father-in-law.

Though I am aware that scotch only ages in barrels, I am curious if this has any worth. I have included pictures at the ebay.

I don't think it is worth hardly anything. Couple of reasons:

(1) It's a blended scotch (collectors want single malts);
(2) Somebody scotch taped the bottle cap, which may imply the seal was broken letting in air thereby ruining the scotch. You say the seal was not broken but the presence of scotch tape contradicts that.

I wouldn't be surprised if your ebay auction does not get any bids.

It isn't unheard of for people to apply sticky tape or cellophane to try and stop/ reduce evaporation in the bottle

I asked why he did that. Dad said he was trying to preserve the label. The liquor seal is intact on both sides and the cap is intact as well. The guy saying the tape implies that is has been opened is wrong. I am trying to date the bottle of the numbers on the liquor tax seal. I know it was for sale in NY state and the numbers should give me a shoot at the import date.
