I am with jazz on this one...

I didn't like it that much in the past, but recently I have liked 'livet 12 more than the 'fiddich..

Livet 12, but its not as good as it used to be. It seems overly sweet these days.

I have nothing against the 'fiddich, I'll quite happily drink if there is nothing else available. But out of these 2, it's the 'livet for me.

I'd choose the Glenlivet. I have not had pleasant drams of the 'fiddich 12 for some time now.

Fiddich for me. I like the malty, apple characteristic instead of the more citric nature of Livet.

Glenlivet. I've actually been rather surprised (and pleasantly so) by my recent encounters with this one.

I think that I am on the fence with this one.

Fiddich for me carries a lot of "baggage" from it's mass production and powerful marketing in the 80's but I quite like it and concur with Ganga's comment.

The Livet is the classier package but I am usually underwhelmed after a dram or two, but like it's delicateness and balance.

Think I'll try them both in a shoot out!

Glenlivet! Glenfiddich 12 one of the worst single malts ever, in my opinion.

Nick, it is quite changed from ten to 15 years ago (NAS Special Reserve and the first 12s). It was very much dominated by the grains/malt/straw characteristic. Now I find it much more fruity-apples and pears.

Neither are life changing, but I would consider both as decent and good introductions and they are most certainly some of the easiest bottles to find.

It honestly depends on my mood, but I would almost say I prefer livet in the summer and fiddich in the winter, simply because I find the livet lighter and the fiddich seems to fit right in a roaring fire in the hearth.

Out of those 2 everyday drinkers its a no contest. The Glenlivet wins hands down for me. I find the fiddich a bit sharp and unrefined in comparrision.
That said my preferences are different when compared to the distillerys in general as i do not like the Glenlivet 15 FO but like 18yr etc and i thnk the Glenfiddich Solera Reserve and the Ancient Reserve are cracking drams fro the money.

Glenffidich's alright - especially when Asda sell it (usually alongside Aberlour) for £14 a bottle. But I prefer Glenlivet.

While one or both of these may not appeal to you, niether of the two in question are vile. There's a thread floating around on Glen Parker-suggest you read some of the descriptions. There are the four I call The Four Drams of the Apocalypse. These include Loch Dhu, Glen Eden, Drumguish; I've lost the 4th right now. MacDeffe will also tell you about the Cuh Dhub (sp?)-compares it directly to Loch Dhu.

Had a dram of the 'livet 12 Christmas eve and it was much richer in flavour than I have had before.
