Jameson Master Selection 18 yrs Discontinued?

Postby Novice Scotch Fan » Thu Nov 04, 2010 3:06 am

I picked up a bottle of Jameson 18yrs Master Selection. I visited the Jameson site and they make no mention of it. The website just mentions the 18 year old Limited Reserve. Is the Master Selection a discontinued line or has it been rebranded as Limited Reserve?

I think the Master Selection is just the newer packaging. They're done in batches, so each batch should be slightly different.

If so, then that's good to hear, as it explains an anomaly in my local liquor board's repertoire, where the whisky is listed on the web-site as Master Selection yet is actually the Limited Edition version on the shelves.

The Jameson 18yrs Master Selection was replaced by the 18 year old Limited Reserve.

The Master Selection was introduced in 2002 and was released in four consecutive years, the front label had the code JJ18-1 in 2002, JJ18-2 in 2003, JJ18-3 in 2004 & JJ18-4 in 2005.

The 18 year old Limited Reserve was released in 2008 and had the code JJ18-8 and has newer packaging and was renamed Limited Reserve to tie in with their 'Reserves' range.

Brgreat5, I believe you are correct. I have a bottle with the code JJ18-7 so presumably bottled in 2007. Anyway, I also emailed IrishWhiskeyChaser, a member of this site, who I know to be quite knowledgeable on Irish whiskey. His reply is as follows:

"In relation to your Jameson 18yo ...as you have guessed it is the precursor to the current bottle so yes the Master Selection has been rebranded as Limited Reserve?. There are basically the same line but every batch from year to year will be slightly different from each other. However no real added value on it to be quite honest as it is only a few years old and not seen as collectable. Excellent whiskey by the way so if you plan to open it enjoy."

Guys, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
