famous grouse 18

Postby doc » Sat Dec 04, 2010 4:23 am

I have been a single malt fan for several years now and have tended to favour single malt over blends because surprise surprise ,they taste better. .Recently I purchased a Famous Grouse 18 at our local supplier and I note that it is a malt blend .I can find only limited info on the net so can anyone enlighten me as to it's make up? has it been bulked up with a batch whisky? I havn't opened it as yet but I do remember a 12y/o version I drank and enjoyed some years ago :P :P

Can't tell you much other than it is a vatted malt, meaning a blend of single malts (Highland Park and Macallan). I rather like it. It is a huge step up from 12 year old bottlings by FG.

Can't help you with the 18, but the 12 was one of the best drams I've ever had. It was hard for me to make the bottle last a week! Probably try the 15 next, and then the 18.

As has been said, the Famous Grouse 18 is a vatted malt(not blended), and his made from a mix of Macallan and Highland Park.

I understand Glenrothes is featured prominently in the Grouse line as well.
