I recently tried this at a tasting.
It was pleasant & drinkable. Nothing to get excited at, and - in fact - it was quite bourbon-like (not surprising, given the grain).
However, my major gripe is the price. Here in Oz, it cost $120. To put that in context, Lagavulin 16yo is $80, Johnnie Walker Black Label is $41, and Glenfiddich 12yo is $52.
Now all the textbooks tell us that grain whisky is cheaper & easier to produce, so why should a vatted grain whisky (without an age statement) be so expensive, especially when compared to major heavyweight malts?
For what the whisky actually tastes like, I cannot justify the price.
Anyone have similar (or different) thoughts?
Cheers,
Admiral
