Fake whisky fine

Postby Sally Toms » Wed Mar 09, 2005 4:17 pm

A York publican has been convicted of selling Jacobite whisky from a Bell’s bottle. Michael Edwin Johnson, licensee of the Magnet in York, England was fined nearly £4,000 for selling the fake whisky to his customers.

Johnson claimed he refilled the bottle for convenience, as it was the only available bottle that fitted the Optic, and had turned the label to the wall.

The International Federation of Spirits Producers estimate the refilling of branded spirit bottles costs the consumer £18 million per year in the UK.
