Longmorn notes?

Got into a new bottle of Longmorn Friday night, and had hyped it rather terribly to a friend who had never had it. He was impressed, but I found that the long oaky aftertaste was far less pronounced than in previous bottles. Any comments?

I presume you're referring to the OB 15yo?

My last bottle was different to my previous recollections also, although to me, the new bottle came across as being quite hot and spirity. That was about 18 months ago.....if you trawl through the archives, I'm sure you'll find it. The thread raised a bit of interest at the time and had a few replies.

The last time I made notes on the Longmorn 15yo was mid-2002. Notes were as follows:

Nose Sherry; sweet, with a touch of something like acetone. A hint of fruit
Palate Oily. Spicey. Smooth. Orange peels.
Finish Burnt, dark chocolate. Bitter. Warming, very long

Here are my notes of Longmorn 15 (45°, OB) that I made in 2003:

Nose: light, hint of peat and spirit, figues, green pepper; toffee as the snifter is warmed
Palate: smooth and oily, slowly developing from dry and salty to peppery-minty
Finish: lingering, mellow and spicy, anise gingerbread with apple marmalade
Overall impression: 8.25, very elegant and rather thin; wish it were a cask strength

Yes, I agree with your comment on it being a little thin.
