Cadenheads new bottlings Edinburgh 21.2.14

Postby jmrl » Mon Feb 17, 2014 11:06 am

As Cadenheads have just released a batch of new single cask malts its a good time to try out five of the more appealing:-

Auchentoshan 21yo 162 bottles 51.8% Bourbon barrel

Canadian Indian Corn from Potters Distilling Company, Kelowna, British Columbia 24yo 126 bottles 56.5%

Laphroaig 22yo 168 bottles 49.8% Bourbon hogshead

Tamdhu-Glenlivet 22yo 258 bottles 57.0% port cask**

Glenlossie-Glenlivet 20yo Bourbon hogshead 53.3%

At The Kilderkin, 65 Canongate, Royal Mile, Edinburgh. £22 or £25 for returning non-members. This coming FRIDAY at 7.30pm.

Whereas the un-asterisked above have proved popular with customers, albeit in over just 4 days, the Tamdhu doesn't seem such a solid choice: a couple of guys bought a bottle but others have not been too impressed. My colleague Klaus Pinkernel is celebrating 10 years of his Berlin shop. On Wednesday we should receive a case of the single cask cask strength Craigellachie 14yo which has been bottled to mark the occasion. Craigellachie is his favourite Speyside and he preferred the 14yo to any 10yo casks he sampled. If it seems a better bottling we'll replace thandu for the Craigellachie.

It seems the distillery character fits his palate. Klaus sites a pleasant, crisp malty style often encountered in bottlings as refilled casks are common. He has a preference for barrels Fair enough.

Of course everybody knew Laphroaig but I think introducing folks to low profile drams like Glenlossie is very helpful and rewarding.
