Whisky in Berlin

Postby mr_a_non » Wed Sep 07, 2005 6:21 pm

Well I have just booked a last minute deal for 4 nights in Berlin. I am looking forward to it but have only one previous (and very short) experience of Berlin, so am appealing to anyone who may know a little more.

Anyone know of a good whiksy bar, a good shop, and anything that might be cheaper in Germany than it is here?

Thanks for any help!

Hi there,

if you find the time, there is a whisky fair going on in the Cöpenick district of Berlin.

http://www.whisky-herbst.de

and the map

http://www.whisky-herbst.de/index2.html (Click left: Der Ort)

The fair is going from the 9th to the 11th of September.

The organisers are

http://www.whisky-herbst.de/index2.html (Click left: Die Austeller)

and their shops in Berlin are the places to look. Can´t be there myself unfortunately.
If you attend have fun.

Greetings

Hi mr_a_non,
there are of course lots of places to visit in Berlin. You should try Malt Whisky Store 13507 Berlin - Tegel, Schlieperstr. 13, good service and nice range - note: it's not center city but about 20 minutes by U-Bahn (tube) to B-Tegel.
Enjoy your trip to Berlin!

Well, just got back. Couldn't convince my girlfriend to take the U-bahn out as far as Tegel for a whisky shop, but did manage "Wein und Whisky" (really ought to be "Whisky und mehr whisky" as there was no wine in the shop). A great shop with loads of bottlings, OBs and some very rare IBs. Most things struck me as on a par, pricewise, with home. Some bottles were maybe 20% cheaper: all bar a bottle of Blanton's which, at €25 was too much of a bargain to leave.

The person in the shop was very helpful and spoke excellent English (he appreciated that my girlfriend was the linguist and her whisky vocab was limited in English, let alone German!) All round the shop gets my ringing endorsement!

(As an aside for anyone else going to visit: a surprisingly large number of bars have half a dozen or so single malts and the big department stores (especially KaDeWe) have very impressive selections. For anyone that is interested: there is also a tremendous number of cigar shops!)

Been sniffing around the shops in Berlin for some time now. Most have a mediocre selection at best. The ones that do have a nice selection are almost always overpriced. If you have the time to get away from the tourist areas, then I can recommend Big Market:

http://www.big-market.de/

The site seems to be only in German, however, everything listed at their online shop can be purchased onsite (this is what they told me in a telephone conversation).

Enjoy!
