Impurities?

I need to find a reference to the "other" impurities in whiskey besides ethanol and water for a chemistry lab report. I have tried Google with as many terms as I can think of for this information (which is how I stumbled upon this forum). Any help, answers, or ideas where to look would be appreciated.

I think you need to define "impurities" first, as it is the impurities that is the whole point of whisky really

Without them, it wouldnt be much more, then say, .. a vodka?

Impurities to one, desired elements to another.

Thank you all for your help, even if "impurities" was vague. I was asked a vague question by my professor. Sure hope he likes the answer I found after I remembered the academic search engine I had at my access and with all the scientific journals my school subscribes to, the New York Times was the only one that was useful. Go figure.
