How much do you drink and how often?

Postby Tyson » Wed Dec 07, 2005 3:38 am

Just trying to get a feel for the overall consumption level of my fellow whisky lovers. I'm at 3 drams, each about 35ml, or 105ml total a night.

Usually 1-3 a night, average 40mL each. Not all nights though.

I was drinking around 125 mls a night before my month lay off. I have now (theoretically) cut back to 75 - 100 mls 4 nights per week (although I'm not drinking very much at all at the moment, in preparation for JM's tasting tomorrow :D).

I feel this amount can be drunk without long term side effects, but who knows :?:

Whisky, one big dram (in the range of 100-125 ml, I don't measure) 2, maybe 3 nights a week. Might cut down the size a bit as right now I'm drinking Abunadh.

Probably 4 or 5 beers each week, usually weekend afternoons.

And a bottle of wine most weekends, split over 2 dinners (either Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun).

And then about night each month I will drink the equivalent of all the above combined at a dinner or party.

Usually 15 cl a day. Sometimes less, often more. Usually I try to pitch any malt against another to find comparisies or experience how age evolution influences the taste. so its rare to have only one dram a day.

A 750ml bottle is 3 or 4 sittings over a week or less, but not every week though. Anyhow, it's for medicinal purposes only!

Whisky - during the "Christmas season" three glasses a night (about two American shots per glass).

Beer - happy hours with the boys, I can go through five/six beers without batting an eye. Weekends (particularly during college football (American) season - I can go through a 12 pack of beer during the course of the tailgate, game, and after party.

Wine - two/three glasses a night before, during, and after dinner. (when I'm not drinking something else).

I typically only drink whisky during this time of year, then put it down until next November-December.

I must confess, I'm a little surprised at the large quantities you guys are throwing down!

If I was to average my week out, it would probably work out to be 30-60ml per night, which is a far cry from the 125ml to 240ml many others seem to be consuming.

Must be a climate thing  . (Bond excluded! :) )

75 ml per night is my average. I really should push that up a bit.

My average is about 20oz of beer a week
and about 90-120 mL of whisky per week
(very low I know  )

The nice thing is that I go through bottles VERY slowly :)
Or is that a bad thing :?

I'll have two or three drams (~5cl each) every other night or so.

Good, I don't feel like quite so much of a lush anymore :) Although I'm going to cut down my drinking to every-other night. I find if I drink even a small amount more than a couple of days in a row, that I lose some of my ability to really taste and nose as well. When I take a break, the flavors come back in full force. Anyone else notice this with their tastings?

Yes, I notice the desensitization, especially of peat smoke.

Indeed. I drink CS straight most of the time but after a layoff it can be a bit too much, even for me.

My average is one dram a night, maybe two on the weekends...perhaps a beer at dinner if it makes sense. I'll occasionally have more than that, but I want to savor each dram (and drinking too much will cause problems with the women who let me live with them).

I couldn't say exactly how much I drink a night, but not much usually. I do like to savor it. Each bottle lasts quite a while.

Though lately, I've been trying to broaden my horizons and imbibing other alcoholic beverages that are NOT scotch whisky. I generally consume more of those a night, but only because they're considerably cheaper.

How much...hmmm. Well, usually, I try to ban alcohol during the week. Makes me go crackers during training. Though the occasional dram in the evening after a boiling day at the office is always happily consumed. A beer or 2 in the weekend, or a dram or 2 in the week-end, just the same. Being at a party though alcohol level can go up a bit. But I'd prefer "enjoying" the drink, than having my lights go out until the break of dawn of the second day sequel to the alcoholic apocalyps :)

Should have believed my wife when she said I drink too much. I shall now de-tox and abstain for 48 hours.
