Longmorn 15yo - any experiences?

Hi All

I have just seen an advertisement for a supermarket sale where some single malts are included.

Among the offers are Longmorn 15yo OB for only 1 JWB, which seems rather cheap. I'm thinking about purchasing a couple of bottles - one for my self and perhaps to give one as a christmas gift.

But I know next to nothing about Longmorn - has anybody here tried this and if so, can you help me with tasting notes and/or general impression of Longmorn ?

Hi Jan,
quite a lot of posters around here talk very friendly about Longmorn. I've one open - and I like it very much. But that's just us... Anyway, for 1 JWB it's a steal. I would say, go for it!

The 15yo is a great whisky, very under-rated, and at 1 JWB, I'd probably buy myself three bottles!

It's been a couple of years since I last sampled one, but my multiple experiences of the 15yo OB up to that in point in time have all been positive.

Yeah, it's a very nice one. Well worth the money. (Personally, I prefer JWB, though...)

I tried it once and didn't like it. Too "lively" for me. But that's a good price, no question!

Here's my notes:

( 88 ) Longmorn 15yo 45% abv HighlandReminds me of Balvenie

Tasting notes:

Color: Light gold

Nose: Orange candies, green apples, pears, rock candy, lemon meringue, new cut grass

Palate: Subtle sweetness, nutty, fresh fruit, raspberry jelly, cigar & oak smoke

Body: Slippery, smooth and firm

Finish: Medium vaporous, lime skin, fresh grapefruit

Quote: Very delightful quality malt. The balance of the fruits, wood, and candy meld perfectly without an off note that pays off with that “ahh” you get from very few. Not too much of anything, just well done cask selection I suppose. Cheers to the Master Blender.

I have liked Longmorn 15yo too. In my tastebuds it is just a little bit leaning to Talisker kind of peppery.

If you have the chance, also try the G&M Longmorn 25, it's very good.

I love Longmorn, for me it's a 'must have', there is always a bottle in the cupboard. Go for it!

Not had the 25 yr old but the G&M 12 is excellent, being very sweet and lighter in body than the 15.

Had the 25yo G&McP at the Spirit of Toronto show. I enjoyed it but it is not a favorite of mine. I haven't had the 15yo OB in a while but I remember it being a bit harsh. I enjoyed a 35yo by Duncan Taylor at last year's show but didn't buy any for $350/bottle.

I know a lot of people in and around Elgin who think Longmorn's very good but past its best by 15. The old OB 10 was excellent, but you don't see it anywhere except in whisky auctions these days.

assuming the JWB is BLACK

this is a great deal!!! Longmorn 15 is really a great whisky, so pick up a few bottles. i wish they had deals like that where I am!!
