Looking for a creamy whisky .

Hello all..........I have just discovered at the age of 45 a taste for whisky.I enjoyed a Glennfidich and then on advice rushed out and bought an expensive bottle of Glennfidich 18 yr ancient...I am not keen on it ? I have tried a teachers and this blended whisky is nice and creamy..............are there any better whiskies that are creamy ?......The 18 yr old just seems too raw to me........appreciatte any tips on what to buy next.

Maybe you like the vanilla taste grain can impart - Compass Box Hedonism is a subtle, vanilla ice creamy, whisky that I first tried last week.

Maybe you prefer blends - as you liked Teacher's. Vat 69 is a light cheapish blend.

Hi Glenn

There are lots of creamy whiskies on the market, some of my favourites are An Cnoc 12yr, Edradour 10yr, Auchentoshen 10yr, Glenfiddich Solera 15yr and Abalour 10yr.

I'm sure the guys will come up with lots of other suggestions.

Tullibardine 1993 has a long vanilla creamy finish

Edradour 10 was the creamiest mintiest thing I ever had. Sweet enough to drink with ice cream.

I think J Walker Black is very creamy. It's not too expensive either.

Generally, I'd say the more aged whiskies should be more creamy.

I would second the suggestion of Ardmore as a creamy dram.

And, although I haven't tried it myself, Michael Jackson makes a point of identifying Glencadam as a particularly creamy malt.

I find the notion of Glenfiddich 18 being "raw" rather mystifying. I rarely use the overworked descriptor "smooth" to describe a whisky, and rarer still as a compliment, but the 18 seems to me the very epitome.

My vote would go to Edradour too. Even the Balvenie double wood is mildly creamy.

I've had some grain whisky "Girvan" that was what I would describe as very "creamy".

Not sure if their whisky is commonly available (never seen anything else), and I only have a few sips left.

The Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish always struck me as very buttery with just a hint of spice to keep things interesting. I wonder if that might suit your fancy. I hope you have easy access to a well-stocked whisky bar where you can sample away to your heart's content. That's often a better way to start than to guess on retail purchases.

I recently had some "Red Breast" Irish Whisky and found it exceptionally creamy. A little different but I quite enjoyed it.

There is also a Glenlivet 15 yr old (French reserve?) which I recall being creamy but it has been some time since I have tried it last.

I inherited an old style bottle from my late father-in-law. Tried it last night - first time in ages. I agree with you. It had a really lushious "top of the milk" feel about it. I won't wait so long before quaffing it again!

PS if you want a whisky to try with ice cream, HP25 is fabulous. Fire and ice my friend. Fire and ice. A truly wonderful combination. 8) (has to be a good quality vanilla though) :wink:

I agree with this. The 90th Range is very creamy! Mean Vintage 1991 and 1992!

I have to agree heavily with the comment on Redbreast. I bought a bottle about a year ago and it slowly worked its way down until just a few days ago I decided to have a dram only to find about 2oz left in the bottle. I was worried at first it may have oxidized heavily but was wonderfully suprised at how great it was! It is a very creamy whiskey with a ripe fruit sweetness. Its just lovely. I normally don't like the sweeter whiskies but this one is excellent.

If you're in Ontario Canada, its available for about $35.

Dalwhinnie 15 year old. I got this description from their web site. Taste style: Smooth. Smooth malts are likely to hold more sweetness than saltiness and tend to be more creamy than dry.
