What do you call a vertical?

I am doing a nosing of three whiskies - 12, 15 and 18 year old. I usually call this a vertical or ladder - what do you call it?

That's what I call it also or sometimes it's refered to as a 'flight' but I have no idea why. I'm sure a wordsmith like Tattie Heid will be able to tell us.

Hi there,

I take it nose/you taste different aged bottlings of the same malt. That you call a vertical tasting. Just asking, because I am not sure what you would call a tasting of different aged bottlings of different whiskies?

Any idea anyone? Ah, there is no such thing...?

Everyone seems to refer to a tasting of the same distillery as a "vertical tasting" but i've never heard a tasting of different distilleries referred to as anything .

Sorry, I meant three whiskies from the same distillery - three different age expresssions of the same whisky

A series of bottlings from the same distillery is called a vertical tasting when I go to Dufftown.

Are you going back there sometime soon, Chris?

.....Of course if there are several (usually a large amount ) from the same distillery it can also be known as a "Vertical to Horizontal" tasting...... :lol:

Hi Bruce and Spirit:

Unfortunately no Feis Ile for us this year but I am going to get to the last day of the spring speyside festival in time for the dregs party!! WE are staying on for a week or two and looking around for a place to move to. Any ideas?

Any line perpendicular to a horizontal.Dont know about anyone else but the phrase'Tonight I'm doing a vertical' brings out the inverted snob in me. This is not the place to be bragging about the neferious events that take place behind the curtains. Keep your private lives private!
