There is also a whisky bar in the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre (top of the Royal Mile) which is charmless, smelly from the attached restaurant and generally quite expensive - but it does have an excellent range including some very rare whiskies. It is jolly pricey, but has the odd bargain - e.g. Laphroaig 30yo at £8 a dram and Ben Nevis 26yo at around £5 a dram. There is a new place at the top of Cockburn Street called the Albanach - haven't been in there but I have seen a good selection of whiskies through the window. Scotch whisky is seldom cheap, and pubs are probably the most expensive way to drink it. If you want a change, you could try the local beer - Caledonian Deuchars IPA which is rather good and wins awards - available widely.
