I count myself among those who have a dram every day...

I would say I have a few drams at least two times a week but it all comes down to a lot of circumstances. I use to drink much less during the warm summer months than I do in winter. And sometimes I can stay away from whisky several weeks only to have a few drams everyday when going to Scotland. But in average, I would say twice a week... :D

Cheers

My drinking habits are the same. Sometimes I find that I've gone a couple of weeks without a dram, but then I might have a few over several consecutive nights. My best guess is that I average twice per week.

Because of my work I only drink every other weekend. I'd like to enjoy whisky every weekend but it isn't an option yet

I normally do not dram on workdays, but have 2-4 drams on fridays & saturdays and occasionally a dram or two on sundays.

Sometimes every day but when I have a cold and can't smell or taste I give it a rest for a while.

Although I reside in Norway, I feel it's ok to have a whisky, or two, each day, even though I may go days without one. And if I do go without for days, I won't make up for it on the weekends by trying to consume the week's share I missed! I feel "moderation" is best, physically and mentally. And it's important to stop when you have enjoyed your day's, (morning or evening!) share.

I'll usually have a small dram or two at night, depending on what's going on around the house. If it's hectic, I'll pass, since I'd like to be able to relax and enjoy it. On average, I'll usually have a glass four or five days out of seven...

Totally depends on the week for me...If I'm tasting samples, I may have 1-2 each night.

On a normal week, it might be 0-4 for the whole week.

During Whisky Festival season, it's way too many.

I was kicking back 1 or 2 drams a night for a few months, but now I am content to enjoy a single dram slowly about 5 nights a week now. An injury has kept me out of the gym and I have to cut back on the calorie intake. How many calories are in the average dram?

I hope you're sitting while reading this:
1cl of 40% whisky contains no less than 20kcal. For comparison 1 glass of redwine at 12% (150gr) contains approx. 108kcal and 1cl of Cointreau is 31kcal.
Further on, one portion of whipped cream with 40% fat contains 94kcal.
1 small glass of Irish Coffee is approx. 108kcal

Look at these numbers and realise that each time you have a dram at
4-5 cl you practically put a portion of cream, 25gr. (40%fat) in your mouth.

Enjoy...

One dram at least every day. But there has been exceptions.
After heavy fairs, massive tastingnights and when really sick (happens once in a while), I've been known to lower my weekly intake.

Whisk(e)y at least is just calories from the alcohol. There are no carbohydrates like in many other drinks. So if you are going to have a drink, whisky neat offers the lowest calories possible. Is there any relation to having a shot of cream? No, and I don't put any cream in my coffee... so there! :P

It certainly isn't any worse than having just about any other sweetened beverage like a ginger ale or a cola, even without any liquor in the mix.

I'm ashamed to admit that I've been letting work interfere with my drinking. I'm afraid it's affecting my interpersonal relationships, as well. I thought I could handle it, but it has gotten out of control.

How often do you dram

Postby Muskrat Portage » Sun Apr 23, 2006 3:33 am

I voted for 3 times a week as it's sometimes more and sometimes less. I also don't generally have just one sample, I usually have a couple every time I do dram. Hey it's 9:30 pm, time for a dram. Bye.

Pete

P.S: This Saturday coming at our biannual tasting I'll be dramming heavily which should count for another one...

Only once a week, normally on a Sunday, purely because I don't drink at all during the week.

Found that it keeps the weight off

Well I had cut back and then my girlfriend left me :( (I have to police how much I 'taste' quite militantly now).

3-5 25cl drams 5 times / week (have to force myself to have 2 booze free days / week).

Bearing in mind some of those will be cask strength / barrel proof, I'm skipping merrily just above the recommended weekly intake.

Or about 0.75 of a bottle per week.

I voted for 3 times a week but would put it closer to 4-5 times even averaged out as I too can go by a week with out taking a sip or a full week or more sipping every night but would have min 4 drams. Can't do less unfortunately .. no will power once started

Off it for over 2 weeks due to medication but back on track now

Sorry to hear about your luck, Bamber. More fish in the sea and all that. At least no one can tell you not to buy whisky now (always a silver lining???).

I would drink every night if i could afford it or more likely when i can afford it. I had a dram nearly every day this winter, but haven't touched a drop in at least a month.
