Stored bottles horizontal

Hi,

I recently noticed couple of bottles were stored horizontally in my collection. They have been like that for about 3 months.

What will happen to Whisky after 3 months contact with cork?

It is generally considered bad practice, due to the idea that prolonged exposure of high ABV alcohol will damage the cork, and possibly leech unpleaseant armoas or flavours into the whisky. I'm doing a test of my own on the effects of cork spoilage, so i'm interested in how your bottles / corks look and taste after 3 months soaking in the cork.

I'd suggest you put those bottles back upright as soon as you can, especially if they are rarer bottlings.

I did put them into upright position the moment I noticed them.

One Lagavulin Distillers Edition (1989 bottled in 2005) and other is Glenfeddich Ancient Reserve 18Y.

I have't opened them yet. Will update you when I am open them. I am a newbie and not sure value of my comments.

Do you think I should open and check? Was planning to use them on some special occasion.

Well, any excuse is a good excuse to open a nice bottle of whisky, but I don't think it will have ruined them. At least I certainly hope it hasn't!

Yes. I have an excuse to open them and my wife wont crib as she was the culprit.

But, let me take a chance. Will keep them for the occasion. Anyway, have some nice ones to fall back in case these are spoiled.
