Ardbeg Provenance 1974, 2000 bottling???

Found one of these for sale near me. Is this the same thing as those legendary 1998 bottlings or something of less value?

Hi Adrian,
Ardbeg Provenance are in themselves quite legendary!
There are two bottlings: 1974-1997 & 1974-2000

Typical prices should be:
1974-1997 €550 to €650
1974-2000 €600 to €650

Well, it is a hard choice.
The last bottle I have record of for the 2000 version was sold on Ebay UK in Feb. 2006 for 402 GBP.

If you are a collector, then I believe it will continue to steadily rise in price, but at 400 GBP you are being asked to pay the current market price.

, a 1974-1998 which was primarily for the USA but a couple of years ago some were on sale at the distillery , we tried to get Stuart to open one on the Festival Midnight tour but they were away having the wax seals repaired , but later that summer i managed to get one on my return to Islay . The 2000 bottling is the only one i havn't tried (was it for Japanese release only ?) but the other two are stunning , superb examples of Ardbegs !

I saw the Provenance when passing through Heathrow in Sept. 2004, and should've bought it! Even the lady working in the shop told me they were going for much more on Ebay. But then, I couldn't justify buying a whisky so expensive, especially since I wasn't sure if I was going to drink it or keep it to sell. And drinking something so expensive I couldn't quite imagine, and it increasing so much in value I also couldn't imagine.
Damn again!
