Glenrothes Select Reserve

Just came back from a local shop and saw a bottle unknown to me:
Glenrothes Select Reserve.(OB)
What do you guys know about this one ?

Hello Dubois,

Select Reserve is a new unaged expression from Glenrothes, just a few pounds cheaper than their ordinary vintage (1992). It's a good whisky, full of fruits, vanilla and honey. There's also hints of lemons. A cheap option to their finer and more expressive vintages.

It was released as a pilot program in 2 states in the U.S. and I eventually tried it as well as several other Glenrothes. Very good stuff "for the price". It won't replace a "74 or such, but it gives us something to have on hand to let the "74 stretch out a little longer.

Here's my notes:

Tasting notes:
Color: Dark yellow with green tinge
Nose: Ripe apples, fresh air, green leaves, maraschino cherries
Palate: Firm, nutty, tree bark, hint of smoke, caramel and raisins
Body: Oily, thinning out
Finish: Stony, bitter like almond skins
Quote: Caramel apple with nuts!
Notes This has a familiar recurring style I have recognized from others, but it was tasted after a C/S, so it seems a little weak. I’ll give it another try later. Revise: It has developed character and will go along way in convincing me to splurge on a Vintage.Revise2: Really opened up toward the end of the bottle with a rich caramel nose and pecan pie palate. Damned if it didn’t make it on my replace list Replace: YES


And replace I did. I'd like to say it may be on par with the 1992, but I've yet to tackle that one. Soon, though. The Select Reserve is well worth a try, IMHO.

The Select Reserve is the First "Non Vintage" from Glenrothes since years. The last one was the 12 year old bottling, before they start the vintage concept. The Select Reserve was made for United States, because the Vintage Concept was not as popular as expected. He is also available for the rest of the world, because he is really good. The SR is a Vatted Glenrothes and gives a nice overview about the Glenrothes flavours.
