Question on deterioration of whisky in sample bottles

Hi All

A few months ago, I purchased a number of sample bottles from LFW.

I have since occasionally saved 10cl samples of whiskies that were special - or that I just thought I would'nt be replacing any time soon.
(And sometimes also just to cheat a little... presto - the bottle is empty - now I can open a new one )

I do my best to fill the sample bottles to the rim, but in some there are a few millimeters of air in the neck.

My question is: I know about deterioration in normal bottles, but I'm a little unsure on what will happen to the samples if stored over a period of several months - or even longer.

Has anybody here any experience to share? Will the whisky deteriorate and how fast will the process work?

Hmm, I think if you fill the bottle well enough, it should be ok...

But be carefull when it isnt as full as you describe. I had a 30yo Ardbeg miniature I drank on one occasion about half of it, saving the other half for a later date, as I prefer to write notes based on at least 2 tasting sessions. It wasnt much later at all (a month?) and the sample had gone all stale and flat, yuk!

So from my experience: you have to be extra carefull with miniatures when they are not filled up max....

I was planning of doing something similar Jan as I hate rushing the end of a bottle.
