Ardbeg 1965 Commercial

General chat and talk about whisky.

The commercial must have cost a few bob. Their advertisement is a blatent attempt to sell the whisky.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's it based on?

All the people in the video are from Islay and are all Gaelic speakers .
As i said on the other post to do with this , you can pick out Christine Logans (the former Bowmore V C manageress) Mother in it .

Hilarious, and very obviously a parody of the Egoiste advert. They use the same music, even. The warehouse with the word Ardbeg on it is real enough, of course--

Image

--but the building with all the windows is a complete fabrication, maybe built from this one--

Image

--which is in a completely different situation to that shown. The landscape is fictional, also--a real one, no doubt, but not the one you'd see if at Ardbeg.

This is great fun indeed, thanks C.I. for sharing it with us! I may be totally wrong here, but didn't all those women cry out something like: "uisge beatha"?

So if they are parodying the 'Chanel pour l'homme' are Ardbeg implying that this Ardbeg is not for women

As some you have noticed, the commercial is of the same style as Chanel and both Chanel and Glenmorangie (Ardbeg) are owned by the french company LVMH...

As you might also be aware, there has been stories that LVMH was not very happy with Glenmorangie selling some of its whiskies for the mass market.

No more politics, but LVMH and their idea of promoting Ardbeg as a Deluxe whisky might have some impact on the long term.

A small point but I think you'll find that Chanel is not owned by LVMH....

They speak gaelic on Islay that's very similar to Irish, but I don't know what they're saying.

Well now, we can't have that, can we? What will the world come to if these people actually try to sell their whisky?

I will say that I'd be very curious to know how the cost of the advert compares to the total sale price of all of the bottles. I will repeat, this is a high-profile prestige bottling, the equivalent perhaps of running an F1 car to get people to buy Civics.

You are corret, Chanel is not part of LVMH. My mistake.

Chanel is one of the last indepent company and the owner of the capital is unclear.
