Corked?

I just opened a bottle of Springbank 12 yo. The cork bottom half was moist, but not crumbling. The whisky had a bit of a woody, bitter aftertaste...haven't had too much Springbank so can't really compare it. Was this bottle corked? Is moist cork a bad sign?

I stored it upright and was upright at the store but you never know about shipping.

Hard to say but it sounds like an over oaked whisky, as opposed to a corked one.

I go with the others too

It can be a fairly regular occurance to get a soaked cork. Usually because of hot weather before the bottle is opened. Corks in general don't really interfere with or add to the taste. Is it an OB or and IB?

Thanks for the tips. It is an OB and it has been sitting through our dreadful Southern California heatwave. Maybe I'll wait and try it again once it cools off, if that ever happens.
