1971 Islay vintages

Postby kildalton » Tue Sep 26, 2006 5:26 pm

I noticed that Islay 1971 vintages are very rare,
I'm not aware of any Ardbegs or Lagavulins from that year,
just a bunch of(very good indeed)bowmores and maybe Port ellens...
(Laphroaigs?)

There was a peculiar reason for this lack of 1971 islay malts or it's a mere coincidence?
(I know Caol ila was closed during that year(if I don't err))

I'm very curious about this.

Thats a very good question !
I've only ever seen a few Bowmores and one RMW Bunnahabhain . No Ardbegs (seen 1967 then the next one was a 1972 ) , can't remember any Laddies , Laphroaigs , Lagas and as you state Caol Ila was shut .
I do know of 1 possible 1971 hitting the shelf in a very limited edition .....

Sorry i can't tell you why there's a lack of them !

If I'm not unpolite, may I ask which one?
