Seven new whiskies - all in the same week. Hurrah! Other distilleries might take years to rack up so many expressions.

Nice to see they're going down the black whisky route, too. Perhaps they'll try a colourless one next week.

I really enjoyed the first edtion of the 12, so If I ever get out of the state again, I'm going to look for the new version of that first. That said, they all look worth a try. The Blacker Still would scare me a lot more if they didn't have their anti-caramel stand.

Since I can only get Bruichladdich when I travel, I really appreciate the solid tins (with the bottle holder inside) that they use.

'Blacker still' refers not to the colour of the whisky but to the fact it was produced from an old black still. I think the Bruichladdich guys are pretty clever with what they are doing but I appreciate that some guys here perhaps think the wine etc ACE techniques are a bit suspect and covering up something.

I think they are very brave, having the balls to be innovative, yet releasing authentic, quality whiskies. As such, I applaud them for that in what is an increasingly competitive, global market.

Any ideas when these new Bruichladdich's will be available?? I asked The Whisky Exchange about the PC5, and they don't have a release date.

The 12 second edition is now at Royal Mile Whisky's. I'm sure the rest will be popping up within the next couple of weeks.

Isn't the 12yo replacing the former 10yo?

Looking at the timeline this makes sense as it was mothballed in 1995 and reopened in 2001. They could come out with an 11yo instead, I suppose but then they'd have to relable it next year. Will take five years until the new spirit is ready for the 10yo label so for a while there will only be younguns like PC5 and the aforementioned 12yo.

The Infinity 2nd Edition is now at LFW......

Bruichladdich - Infinity OB 2nd Edition 52.5%vol.

A new vatting with less sherry than our old favourite which was a mix of peaty Bruichladdich and three sherry cask vintages. This time there is no sherry but they have buggered about with Rioja casks for a finish. But let's ignore that.

This is a peaty whisky, a little flatter than many Islays, like one of the new mainland peatys. A quiet, green and oily nose. The taste is dry, vegetative with a good fishiness and a big peaty swallow, for me it's too much peat I prefer the first Infinity, we will test it in the shop to see what you punters think....

[PC5 is due in November]
