Talikser 20 vs 25?

My lovely wife gave me a "coupon" for Christmas and I can spend it on any single malt that strikes my fancy. There's a shop here that has both the 20 yo and 25 yo Talisker and the price difference is only USD20! :shock:

Does anyone have any experience with these two? I've only had the 18 and would like to know how these older ones compare... Any opinions as to which one I should get?

Never tried the 20yo, but I had a dram of the 25yo at a bar (not sure of the bottling year) and it was better in every way. I would liken it to the Highland Park 18yo vs. the 25yo.

Many moons ago me and a mate done a Head to Head with the two , couldn't tell much difference between the two to be honest , but i remember the T25 was better than the Laga 25 .

Definitely the 25yo from refill Bourbon Casks, the 20yo from Sherry Casks is not nearly as good, IMHO. I have them both open right now and can do a side by side comparison. The 20yo I have is the 59.7% abv and there is a famous one @ 62% abv that is supposed to be fantastic, so I figured mine would be similar and to me the 25yo blows it away. I have notes on both if you want to see the different descriptions. I can get them both at about the same price also ($169US) and I'll go for the 25yo as long there is supply around.

Yeah, Mr Picky caught that, too, but I think he meant better than the 18 that SM has had.

Of course, it's hard to argue with the notion that a dram drunk is better in every way than one not drunk!
