Is it true the present balvenie 10 founders reserve is finishing?

Also what is balvenie rumwood aged 14 years, as the website doesn't have it listed.

Supposedly made only for La Maison du Whisky for France. Still sold in other places as well. British retailers should have it.

Balvenie 10 yo

Postby Muskrat Portage » Sat Feb 03, 2007 10:57 pm

I thought we went over this topic in a previous thread and the end result was that the Balvenie 10 yo FOunders Reserve was going to continue in select markets throughout the world. We were happy as Canada was one of the markets to continue to receive it.
Has something changed?

Muskrat you must be high. On the Balvenie site it clearly shows it is no longer produced. What Canada has is the remnants of prior bottlings. It's the end.

Elagabalus:
No, not high, however a bit perturbed. If you view the following from January of last year:
http://www.whiskymag.com/forum/viewtopi ... rs+reserve
...you'll read a fairly long thread that dealt with the Balvenie FR. It was also in one of Mark's Whiskycast programmes in January 2006 and at that time this was the quote:
MGillespie wrote:In his words, the 10Yo Founder's Reserve is NOT being discontinued. However, it will be limited in availability to the UK, US, France, and possibly one or two small markets. They've decided to do this because they want to use the stocks aging now that would have been used for the Founder's Reserve to make the 12YO Doublewood expression.
This was the last we'd heard on the forum, so if there is a change in availability I'd sure like to see the "why?" pursued.

Muskrat I fail to understand why Balvenie 10 isn't on the Balvenie website if it is still in production. Something does not compute. However I sincerely hope what you are saying is true because I am a peasant and the Balvenie 10yo is offered at a decent price.

Elagabalus:
Yeah, I concur with you on that, I thought that strange as well. I can only assume that the website sells to markets that the 10 yo will not be available to so is no longer listed there. We all know that they have to make a 10 yo to get to a 12yo. In another thread, I seem to remember it was stated, that as they ran out of 10 yo near the end of the bottling, they topped up with 12 yo so buying the 10 was a really great deal!
By the by, the next great deal at the LCBO is the Lobgmorn 15 yo at around $54.00. We peasants must stick together!

RE>Balvenie 10 yo Founders Reserve
I was in the Manitoba MLCC on the weekend and have discovered that they will be discontinuing this product as well. Once their present stocks are gone, they're gone.

Speaking of Balvenie, what about the 21y Port Wood?? Is that supposed to be discontinued too? I heard there was no more, perhaps just exhausted and not to be importerd just here in Norway? But magically a bottle appeared tonight, didn't even realize I had ordered it! I must've, months ago, and like usual, someone wakes up and delivers it, or something like that.

It's being discontinued. Face it, it's happening, stock up. Save yourself.

It's not being discontinued, according to WhiskyCast. You're just not getting any. Nyaah!

It's good news that it's not being discontinued but just because it's not available in some parts of Canada does not mean I won't have access to it in my market.

Are they replacing it with something else? I would think they would stay in the 10 yr old market unless they feel it is too crowded right now.

I am led to beleive they are holding their stock of the ten to make it the 12 yearold doublewood.

I will have to pick up a bottle of this double wood, I hear some people saying they prefer it to the ten and other who say they prefer the ten to the twelve. We shall see.
