Aberlour 16 DM

I always used to grab the Macallan when I wanted a sherry fix, but have recently been impressed by the strides Aberlour has been taking.

Has anyone tried the 16 year-old double-matured? What are your opinions?

Hi Rory, welcome to the forum, I recently tasted the 16 Double Matured after not having it for quite a while and was amazed by the nose and taste, it is a very good dram. The 12 Double Matured is also very good and I agree that Aberlour is certainly giving Macallan a run for their money these days.

I was very impressed with the nose on the 16 DM, I spent a long time snorting into the glass. :roll:

I also like the 12 DM but feel that the 16 DM is worth the expense.

I've had it a couple times and I really like it I wish it was more available, I agree with Lawrence it is worth the expence over the 12 it just seems more balanced, I have tried older aberlour and find it great and I'm glad to see they are taking great pride in their product.

I'm approaching the end of a bottle at the moment.

It's a very good dram. It's complex and difficult to decipher, at the moment it's decidedly coconuty.
IMO it's a better dram than the 12 and if the price is right I'd have one over the 12 any day.

Is the 16YO DM a new bottling or are all 16YOs double matured? Not sure I've ever seen one in the US...

In what way is the 16 different from the 15 "sherry finish" ? They're both sherry finished right?

I bought mine in a french supermarket - I've never seen it in the UK either.
This is the only OB 16 I'm aware of.

Not much information on the bottle and I've chucked the tube out.

I guess the 'Double Matured' hints at a longer length of time in the sherry cask than 'sherry finished'

If you vist http://www.aberlour.co.uk it lists the more commonly available expersions of Aberlour including some stunners that are only available in France. Here in Canada the agent made a special limited purchase of Aberlour 12 & 16 DM which way it's available but only in very small amounts (Usually 50 cases at a time however it may be different in Ontario).

Both Aberlour 12yo (750ML $39.99/btl) & 16yo (750ML $59.99/btl) are now available at Binny's in Chicago, Ill. USA.
