Special edition Laphroaig 18yo/Sweden

Postby dapa » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:04 am

Hej!

On Thursday a special edition of L. will be released. It's an OB but intended for Sweden. It's an 18yo cask strength and looks interesting. Sweden gets 360 bottles and the price will be 995 SEK or £ 72. Any opinions? Should I buy one?
Help!

You will make a fortune of you buy a case. Could even see these going for over 200 on Ebay if your lucky...

Cash in if you can get your hands on some. DOn't forget to keep 2 to drink though.

Yes! Buy one, at least! And one for me! Does everyone here see how lucky, (and smart!!) Sweden is with their whisky?!! They've been crazy for the stuff for awhile now, with a selection of so many different ones to choose from, even a bottling just for their market. We have some catching up to do over here, but at least we've started trying!!

dapa its not even metioned on the Laphroiag website, anything with limited bottling gets snapped up and you then see it rocket on the second hand market. For instance I have seen today PC5 for sale at Buy Now price of £129.99. Whether they get that or they are just testing the market. If it sells its more than doubled in price in 3 months.

If you manage to get your hands on some just remember who your friends are who adviced you. We would all like one. Prepared to pay the price of course.

Laphroaigs have always been very good whiskies and the price is very correct for an 18 YO CS version. It will worth more in a few months, but in any case I think it will be a whisky worth drinking!

I remember the laphroaig 1994 islay festival bottling was on ebay a couple of months for £114.00, when i saw it last it still had two days to go.

This one can only go up, shame the whiskymag directory has no listings for swedish whisky retailers! but then just as well, it would probably all return home to the british isles a month after it arrives in sweden

I find it odd that they don't do international mail order. I've noticed a few limited editions for Sweden only recently namely highland park's.

Why is this?

I think it is unlawful not to offer the service to residents of other EU member states.

Well, Nick, I'm not sure. However, it's illegal for me to buy whisky online. I have to collect the purchase myself or it can get caught in customs. It's been to the EC court and the result is that the monopoly in Sweden stays put due to public health.

Hey dapa we are the public what about the effect on our health due to the stress for not being allowed this release. Have the Govt thought about the bigger picture.

And the result is: One in the hand and one ordered.

My store got six bottles and the line was......3 people! Go figure. Anyway, it looks like this:

And the final question is: If I only get one bottle - should I open it or save it take make some money?

Congratulations Dapa!
I would open the bottle if I was you. I'm guessing you bought the whisky because you were interested in how it would taste. If you're hoping to make some money out of it, then cross your fingers and hope the bottle you have on order arrives soon. That way you have a keeper and a drinker.

Let us all know how it tastes. (if you do open it)

It took approx. 15 minutes to sell all the bottles that arrived to Sweden. I was standing in line waiting outside a store long before it opened together with some other whisky enthusiasts. Unfortunately it was already sold out before it was my turn.

dapa, please open the bottle and let us unlucky souls know how good it is...

Cheers

I know I'd drink it. You might want to hold onto it for a while and wait to see a) where the price goes, and b) what the tasting reports are.

I seem to recall that someone else in Sweden missed out on one - was it Mr. Ellen?
As much as I would like one myself, my vote goes to someone who stood in a queue in Sweden but didn't get one!

Wow, those Swedes! Selling out in minutes, hundreds of bottles, excellent! Glad it doesn't happen here, but damn do I wish Norway would catch up a bit with our whisky passion like you Swedes!
