What do you collect

Just curious what is the most collected Distillery

The most bottlings I have from one distillery is Ardbeg because I love it, and it's what started my whisky passion. I also have Port Ellen and Rosebank in double and various bottlings. The doubles I may sell off in years to come, unless it's too good not to drink myself! Other "collectable" bottles are quite various, a bottle here a bottle there, various styles and distilleries.

I rarely pass up a bottle from the now-defunct Stitzel-Weller wheated bourbon distillery in Louisville, KY (closed since Summer 1992). However, I wouldn't call the assemblage a 'collection' -- it doesn't include any inviolable bottles. A bottle may sit for few months or even a few years, but it WILL be opened and drunk at some point.

And my dad just picked me up a bottle of George T Stagg, a different batch than the one I already have, so that kind of is collecting, or planning a vertical tasting one day!

I was surprised to find that by numericals alone, I collect Glenmorangie (7) then Balvenie (5), so I selected "Other". By preference, I collect closed/extinct distilleries(6) (oh,and a Brora makes 7(edit)) and then the Diageo Rare Malts (6).

Of my small collection, 40 closed bottles (the ten open would not count, right?), I have 5 Ardbeg, and 7 form closed distilleries (Port Ellen, Brora, St. Maggy). I also guess I am focusing on bottles from distilleries changing designs or discontinuing a bottelingg (i.e Laddy 10).

I think you missed Glenmorangie in your poll?
This is a highly collected malt.

As for my own collection, the mainstays are:

Macallan 74 bottles
Bruichladdich 59 bottles
Ardbeg 33 bottles
Glenmorangie 23 bottles
Glenrothes 11 bottles

Others (varied) 167 bottles

The most bottles I have from any one distillery is Port Ellen and mainly cask strengths of which I have 12 bottles of...so far. :wink:

i collect all distillery own bottles, but with the bulk of my collection being from the rare malts range.

this is my private collection which is visible under the "Private Cellar" button on my whisky-emporium website. The site currently says either 362 or 363, but I have a couple more to add which are not yet photographed.

I jokingly refer to this collection as my "Whisky-Rente" (Whisky-Pension in German) and it is indeed a work in progress.

Should you get to visit Munich anytime, you would be most welcome to PERUSE the collection, but unfettering and opening are not allowed! :lol:

I collect the good whiskies, regardless of the distillery. I always try to buy 1-2 bottles of the whiskies that I really enjoyed in order not to be dry too shortly.

I don't collect, so I won't vote, but will note that Bruichladdich, Highland Park, and Ardbeg are the most numerous in stock, in that order. Looking at the list of empties, the most drunk are Bruichladdich, Balvenie, and Ardbeg.

I buy to drink, but I do have some different Bunnahabhains, Ardbegs, Glenmorangie and Glengoyne... and a lot of bottles from closed distilleries.

The majority of my bottles come from Islay. Bruichladdich being the biggest contributor.

I said Ardbeg but its not only Ardbeg we collect and we actually don`t collect only we drink as well for those bottles that are collectible we try to have 2 bottles at least because we want to be able to drink and save some.
I think whisky is to enjoy I wouldn`t just collect it .

I want to have at least one bottle from every singel scotch malt distillery

However I do collect Irish Whiskey so it is not deemed that I'm robbing the masses of rare Scotch :lol:

I have and buy more Ardbeg than anything else but I don't collect anything, I drink it all. I kind of wish I was colling Ardbeg but no matter how rare or commonplace I open and enjoy everything on my whisky shelf!

So I vote for the unavailable none of the above.

I don't collect, but the Kildalton trio make up 60% of my drinking stock with Ardbeg slightly ahead of Laphroaig in total bottles.

I can't say I'm a collector but I try to get as much Bruichladdich as possible. I got 15 different bottles of Bruichladdich (including 2 Valinch) and want to get them all if possible (exception: the 40 year old, too expensive to even think about it).

Ardbeg, Highland Park and Laphroaig are other distilleries that I would like to have more bottles.

The availability of the products depends where you live and its laws. In Quebec, it's far to be the best place for a single malt enthusiast. The choice is small (around 75 single malt at SAQ) and the prices often ridiculous. Also you can't order a bottle from another country or even from another province. In Canada, Alberta is probably the best place to pay a good price and have a good choice.

Welcome to the forums from the next Province over. An especial welcome to the fray. It's impossible to order from other provinces or countries for all of us. Frustrating but true. However, you are much closer to Ottawa's Rideau LCBO than I and they have a pretty excellent selection. Check out the LCBO website here: http://www.lcbo.com/products/productsearch.shtml
before any trip West and if you see something you like, you can call the store and after giving your Credit Card info, they'll gladly hold it for your arrival. Being 1200 miles away from T.O and Ottawa, I'm more likely to go West myself and pick up at Grant Park in Winterpeg.
Alberta and BC seem to sound like the Holy Grail of Canadian Whisky availability.
