I have a bottle, and know people who have tried it. The word on the street, and I trust this word, is that it is Ardbeg. That is what it seems like to me. In fact, it has the cocao quality of the better G and M Ardbeds, and a nice depth of peat. The malt comes through well. I think I posted tasking notes somewehre, will get them tommarow. Regadless if what it is, it is a good priced, cask strength Islay that is yummy. Does not have the oily and olive quality that I usually get in Caol Ila (Which I am very fond of as well).

Interesting....I thought they had a range of bottlings out there, but your post suggests there's just the one floating around?

Yes, what's the story on this bottling? Ellenstown 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch?? Is it a "mystery malt?" It's a cask strength? Who has tasted it? Is it good??

Yes it is a very good 10yo cask strength Ardbeg. I think that there is no real debate about that at this point.

Worth a try in my book. I had some from ganga, and still have a sealed bottle.

Word is ARDBEG 10 at 58%. Also seems to be confirmed by the noses and palates of those that suffer from Ardbegitis.

The name suggests one of the Kildalton distilleries and there are plenty of folks who can tell them apart, so if the knowledgeable (above) say its Ardbeg, then I believe them. Where do you get it though?

When I look at this I think that these guys had a stall at last years Edinburgh Whisky Festival. I can't remember too much about it though. I think I must have got to them last.

My notes from llast year, or the year before...

Score 89 Ellenstown 10yo "bastard Ardbeg" (58%, Marshall's whiskies, NCNCF) February 7th. Third time out with this lovely, and it just gets better. With just a dash of water, the nose is wonderfully balanced. Sweet malt, citrus and ozone. The smokiness fade in and out. A hint of cocoa Mouth: Congruent with the nose. Wow, this is ardbeg. Smoked oranges, dry biscuits. Powerful, the joy of a cask strength, you control how much it unleashes its power, and this is a strong malt. This really is fantastic stuff. I did not get its complexity the first time out, but this is as good OB 10. Save for the intensity of it, I would have thought this was a bit older. I am embarrassed to say that when I first tasked it upon opening, I thought it was Bowmore. Just goes to show how new I am at this. But I will tell you, this is purely one fine Ardbeg.

I was sifting through some old posts and I stumbled on this rather than posting my own.

This malt is absolutely amazing. It's got to be Ardbeg 10 uncut. I am with both bottles right now. The only way to get a better A-10yr is cask strength baby.... I'd be surprised if not. I emailed the Marshall group and have not heard back yet.
