Lagavulin PX 1990

Postby atoto » Thu May 03, 2007 2:51 am

I just opened a bottle of LvpX 1990 vintage and was somewhat dissapointed!? From reading the multiple reviews off the web, I was expecting an explosion of rasiny sweetness (PX effect) following the characteristic LV 16YO smokiness I come to love over the years. It seems pretty watery and a bit weak - not what I expected. I first though it was a result of a freshly opened bottle but after 2 weeks of allowing the bottle to stabilize - I still find no change.

Any similar tasting results or do you think I purchased a bum bottle? :?:

Unless you usually drink CS whiskies, I think you got a bum bottle. I've had several drams of this stuff, and always found it quite flavourful.

I'm enjoying mine in dribs and drams, but I must say ,nothing can match the amazing impression made on me by the first I had, for a 50th present -I think it was the 1984.

I recently got a Lagavulin 16yo that I found weak and water, no peat, very vegetal. I returned it and the replacement was exactly the same :headbang: , so it was a bad batch. Perhaps yours is also part of a bad batch.

My bottle lasted about four months from opening to the last dram and although nothing quite matched the surprise of the first sip I thought it was fabulous all the way down the bottle.

I can't say I've tried the 1990 yet, but I've tried the '80, '81, '84, '86, and '87, and they were all pretty good.

If the 1990 is a dud, it's an unusual event.

I have a bottle of the 90 PX at the moment and I'm nearly finished after only a month. Eventhough I can say I still prefer the Regular 16yo I really liked what I got out of my bottle.

I found it rich smokey and surpy sweet... :?:
