Its been out a week or so, at least my local oddbins had it for three days before it all went, one guy bought 6 bottles the day they arrived.

The bottles i've ordered i'm having to wait, and i may not even get them apparantly. As its not on the website, i suggest popping in to your local one Les.

Di Blasi i'd ring oddbins in Edinburgh on the Royal Mile.

Really hope to get some, the chap at Oddbins, knows the distillery its from but won't/can't say. But is meant to be Speyside. The last one last year was a big hit, but i didn't even know there was one from last year.

The current one is limited to about 360ish bottles, think its labelled at 'Wax and Seal'- Against the grain.

Hope it helps,

Rob

If you on the website at all guys don't forget to sign up for the newsletter.

I received the email the other day, the Against the grain wasn't on it. But the Bruichladdic Receito Cask exclusive was and a couple of others were.

Just if you were like me at first and didn't read the date.

Checked one out in a Glasgow branch last week and picked one up in my local store last night as they had kept one aside for me. From a single refill bourbon cask at 46% and I think neither chill-filtered (turned cloudy as I'd left in the car overnight) nor coloured (pale straw).

The rather obscure thing to me is the very brief notes say it has 'a sherried nose' - how can this be if not from a sherry cask? Also it says something along the lines of 'smokey on the palate with a dry finish'.

Doesn't sound too much like the only Dailuaine I've ever tried (the flora and fauna expression) but will take your word for it as I don't know the distillery well enough. It does say it's from a little known distillery.

Many of the staff have picked up a bottle or two and they have been inindated with queries about it so best move fast if you want a bottle.

My wife, who was in Glasgow yesterday, bought the last two bottles of the against the grain from the Mitchell Street Oddbins (numbers 95 and 222).

Apparently everyone who works in the shop has bought 1 bottle (limited to 1 each) if this is repeated across the chain (or at least the top 50 shops who are stocking this bottle) not that many are going to reach the general public. Although I suspect quite a few might make it onto ebay soon.

According to my wife the staff were unable to confirm if it was Dailuaine or not.

Good man FB, let us know how you get on with it.

I normally try b4 buying these days but picked this one up as I knew it would be unique and Oddbins, historically at least, have had a very good reputation with choosing their malts.

Further to my previous post I notice that LFW (with their introductory basic nose/taste descriptors) say that Dailuaine is:

Smoky (but no peat) and sherried. Rich.

So this ties in with the notes on the bottle very much.

Nice looking bottle there. Any idea what's in it yet? I figured with a name like that it was a single grain! Not a bad idea for the next bottling perhaps!

Well we opened bottle 56 last night. I have to say what a lovely whisky.

I'm not great on tasting notes but these are my impressions.

Nose:- Spirity vanilla citrus/orange

Taste:- Very smooth nutty not particularly spirity.

Overall opinion:- Real quality a real find, take your time it would be easy to drink too much.

Just spoke to Oddbins in York 01904 623949 .. they have 9 bottles left!

I have got two! :smoke:

They will let you buy them (Debit or Credit Card) and keep them for the next time you are in York.

I live in the East Midlands if anyone wants to buy one - I am more than happy to pick it up. I would even be happy to send it to Europe if any of our Continental friends want one....

Against the grain, whoever produced it bought 5 casks from varioues distilleries, two have been aready done?!! Don't know what they were. So there should be three future releases. Hopefulle one around xmas as they are meant to be twice a year.

The distilleries these are from i don't know.

As alluded to earlier in the thread, the 1st one was launched last year around April - their web page linked from above refers - and was a Glencadam.

If you notice the current ATG says 'bottled November 2006' so it has taken Oddbins 6 months to get it bottled and on the market so it's anyones guess when the next one will appear.
