Wasmund's Single Malt

Has anyone dried a dram of the Virginia Single Malt 'Whisky' (should it not be Whiskey?) I'm quite intrigued as they don't use peat but a mixture of apple wood, cherry wood and oak wood.

If you have tried it do you have any tasting notes?

I also know Rick (the owner) went to Islay to 'learn his craft' I think it was Bowmore but could be wrong?

It's only aged for 4 months I never knew that, the alcohol burn from it must overpower anything else that he tries to put into it flavour wise?

Think I may give it a miss not that you can get it in Scotland.

we tried this at a tasting and I'm afraid it wasn't the most popular. At four months its definetly immature. Difficult to account for the quality of the spirit. I have heard it said the a whisky spirits palatabilty takes a bit of a dive after being in the wood for the first wee while before all the actions and reactions balance the variuos influences out. Have next to no experience directly but seems a reasonable theory. Smoking over oak chips might be a bit heavy handed too. If all goes well everything will come together eventually but early signs are a bit startling. I've still got most of the bottle so will aim to taste it again and post some notes. Rather that it was there than not though.
