1979 Whisky or Ardbeg 10yr. vs Uigeagail Ardbeg

Looking for some advice for a very special birthday gift.
My friend and I love the Ardbeg 10yr but are uncertain how the Uigeagail would taste. My friend (whose birthday it will be for) likes the Ardbeg 10 due to the peatiness but that it also has a very bearable smooth finish... I like it a lot myself.

I'd love some personal experiences of what you have enjoyed between those two.

Also any Whiskys that are from 1979 as well that are an Islay could also be an idea since my friend was born in 79???

Oogie is a grown up 10yo IMHO. Can't really go wrong with it. Higher strength and packed with flavour.
As for a '79, there are a few around. Port Ellen and a Murray McDavid Bunnahabhain come to mind. I think there is a Lagavullin knocking about too.
For the money, though, you'd probably enjoy a case (or two) of Oogie more

I like both Ardbegs, but I thnk the Uigeadail is the better of the two. It is also almost twice as much in some places. The 1979 Lagavulin Distillers Edition (43% and bottled around 1997) is supposed to be fantastic, but it will be difficult to find and probably very expensive.

are fixed on islay? If not and if your looking for an affordable bottle of rather
good whisky destilled in 1979 you should have a look at some other stills like
Glenfarclas, Glen Grant or Strathisla (sweet, smooth and soaked with sherry),
totally different to the Ardbeg TEN, but really great stuff.

If you prefer an islay-malt the uigeadail is a very good choice and you could
also try a Coal Ila 18 or cask strenth, a Laphroaig 15 or cask strenth or a
Lagavulin 16 or destillers edition. All of them are very good islay-malts,
affordable and they should also be available and topp the Ardie TEN.
