Macallan bottle on WhiskyAction

I've been meaning to ask this question since the latest Auction started on http://www.whiskyauction.com

I'm a bit iffy about their Auction Highlight on the home page but these suspicions could be well unfounded. The bottle is at €1205 and would be a costly mistake if you ask me.

However if you look at the bottle the red foil on it looks it's been refitted and that the cork does not actually fit the bottle snugly i.e. it juts out a bit from the bottle neck and I would of though it sholud be pretty much be flush with the neck. Note it is a 1.5l bottle too.

Uhm in my opinion the better thing should be asking to Macallan directly.
I do not see great differences between this bottle and the ones pictured on the links...
About the 1.5 liter bottle this is a magnum so the volume should be correct.
Anyway what You said struck me as well when I saw that bottle,
but I do not have a sure reference to tell more. :?:

Macallan Question

I have found two available bottles of Macallan Platinum Reserve 1977, one sherried, the other not. They have both had quite a few years vatting.
I am interested in the lighter, unsherried bottle, for the "original" Macallan taste.
Jim Murray's Whisky Bible describes it as "firm" and "flinty".
Now, what attracts me to Macallan is primarily its smoothness, but this drink is about 54% abv, and with what Mr Murray says about it, I'm not sure I'm going to like it.

Has anyone tried this drink? Can you give me some idea as to how smooth it is, or what the terms used by the Whisky Bible usually mean?
You might be able to tell that I'm new to single malts, but am not averse to a high proportion of alcohol.

Do any of you live in or near Brighton, UK?
I am thinking of starting a spirits tasting group, if anyone is interested, please let me know.

Haven't a clue what JM means. "firm and flinty" eh?

sounds like a Cadbury's flake to me!

BTW I'm in Reigate, or Reggate as we call it now, just a hlf hour away from sunny Brighton.

Flinty is like 'polished stone' - alluding to mineral / salty flavours. Often associated, with salt and metallic flavours.
