GLENMORANGIE 12YO GOLD RUM CASK FINISH - BONKERS PRICE

Postby Deactivated Member » Mon Oct 29, 2007 7:20 pm

Sainsbury's have now officially 'discontinued' the "Glenmorangie 12yo Golden Rum Cask Finish"
(which was only ever available in Sainsbury's).

Originally, it was £29.99. Then, reduced to £19.99.

Today, it was £9.99 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worth a look in your local store ?

Wow, that's definitely a real bargain. Too bad supermarkets in The Netherlands never stock any serious spirits. Some have a separate liquor store, but more than 5-10 different malts are hard to find, with the notable exception of one.

I'm in the middle of the Cumbrian countryside, our nearest Sainsbury's is Lancaster, but i'll get my girlfriend to check out the stores in Sheffield.

Thanks for the headsup Eelbrook.,

I noticed my local Sainsbury's had the GlenMorangie 15 at £15. But sold out.
I much prefer this to the Rum Finish, which is a bit like adding a dash of rum to your whisky.

Well just got back after my (not so ) local sainsburys put away 4 bottles of this and when i got there it was only the reg 10yr old (a bargain at 20.99) not my GR

You would think the people at Beer Wine & Spirits would know a little about their products or is that asking too much

Woodhill my recent experience is that although they are helpful and nice people. Even the managers of these departments in supermarkets, don't have a clue about wines and spirits. They could probably show you where the Stella is and that's about as far as it goes. I think staff product training is not high on the priority lists of these companies.

Les

dont get me wrong the guys at sainsbury couldn't have been more helpful. He went back in to the back 3 times to check,
I suppose we just want everyone to know as much about whisky as we do, whereas no one but a whisky drinker would understand about finishes etc.

Anyway good luck finding this one

Glenmorangie must have taken a huge financial 'hit' subsidising shelf clearing of old lines (eg 15 year old at £15 and 12 year old at £9.99). I hope it proves worth it.

I don't think Glenmo would have taken a hit, just Sainsbury's trying to clear stocks with a loss-leader before xmas and prior to the all new & improved Glenmo's coming in. I know it's what's in the bottle that counts (which I know from recent tastings has gone up a notch or two) but the new expressions look great - indeed I can see why they want to get rid of all their old stock, which now looks dated, to protect the new brand imagery and packaging.

Great price at a tenner for the Golden Rum tho, but all gone near me.

Leither

In the high street, it is actually very, very rare for a large retailer to 'bankroll' a heavy shop-shelf price reduction itself. The norm is for the 'financial hit' to be taken by the producer/distributor/wholesaler.

I found some

After much calling around a woman at CS in one branch hit upon the bright idea of checking her system to see what everyone else had (something everyone else told me they couldn't do).

What i dont understand is why 1 store would have 15 boxes and every other store for miles around would have none?

All of my local stores were out of stock of the Rum Cask Finish ages ago :( .

Would anyone be interesting in swapping a Rum Cask Finish for a Glenmorangie 15yo :)

Welcome to the forums John Mcgill. Where abouts are you. You can put your rough location in your profile information. It helps us all to know where people are. I might be interested by the way.
