Lagavulin 16, or the 12 y/o Distiller's Edition?

First off, I simply love the Lag 16. A better dram, I've yet to find out there...

That said, in the LCBO (our local liquor bandits) they've discontinued the Distiller's Edition.

Now, since the DE is a 12 y/o (I think), as a younger whisky, is it better than the 16 y/o?

By "better", I'm asking if it is more intense. If the DE is smoother than the standard 16 y/o, I'm not going to bother.

Try everything, dammit! You tried the Lag 16 for the first time once. It's the journey, not the destination. If you're going to drink nothing but Lagavulin 16 for the rest of your life, what are you doing here? Your life is already over!

The DE is vintage dated, and I think it's usually around 16yo. The current one is a 1991. I think it packs the same peat punch as the 16yo, with added depth and sweetness from the PX sherry. LFW says "Not necessarily better - but different". Any number of people here can tell you what they think. But the only way for you to know what you think is to drink the stuff. Hurry! They're discontinuing the stuff, for cryin' out loud!

I bought the Lag DE 1990 for 109.00 at the LCBO a few weeks back. It is now my current favourite SMS. Has it already gone up to 120.00???

I'll have to grab a bottle of Lagavulin 16 though as that is one that everyone raves about. That reminds me I also have to get a bottle of Ardbeg 10 as that seems to be popular here.

That reminds me I also have to get a bottle of Ardbeg 10 as that seems to be popular here.

The Ardbeg is 10 is $74.95.

It would be nice to see privatized liquor stores in Ontario, to get a break now and again.

My English friend emails me all of the time detailing his great finds at the local Tescos, at a large discount of course...

He's put away many a fine bottle for safe keeping that way.

I recently tasted the 1993 distilled, 2006 bottled Lagavulin DE and loved it! Lagavulin 16y with the added element of beatiful softened dark chocolate, really good. Lagavulin sherry aged is superb, (an excellent, I mean perfect example is the new 21y!!!) But I also do love the 12y, mostly Bourbon, or perhaps only Bourbon aged bottling.
